Clerkenwell Design week – Presented during Clerkenwell Design Week, Loom Light is a collaborative installation developed by MIM Studios, Ai Build, and SEAM Design that explores the convergence of light, material, and advanced fabrication.
The 2.5-metre luminaire was conceived as a singular architectural object in which form, print path, and illumination were resolved simultaneously. A twisted geometrical volume — square at floor and ceiling, pleated through its centre — was fabricated as a continuous monolithic print using adaptive non-planar slicing, eliminating seams and support structures entirely.
SEAM developed an integrated lighting assembly using discreet Casambi-controlled BLE light sources, custom diffusers, etched domes, mirror films, and layered polycarbonate to produce a rich and immersive luminous effect. The resulting installation transforms the printed surface into an active optical medium where light diffuses through varying wall thicknesses, creating a mesmerising interplay of glow, reflection, and diffraction.
Part sculpture, part luminaire, Loom Light demonstrates how computational fabrication and integrated lighting can converge to create atmospheric and materially expressive experiences.
